FROM FRONT LAWN
This very thirsty lawn in Mountain View was converted into a low-water landscape using a mixture of California native and drought tolerant Mediterranean climate plants to create year-round interest. The dry creek bed that meanders throughout the garden captures rainwater from the rooftop during the winter and allows precious water to stay on site and soak into the soil.

This Ideabook illustrates the naturalistic dry creek bed and stone “bridge” that would be the focal points of the garden. The plant palette includes a selection of moderate water plants as “companions” for the existing camellias the clients wanted to keep. The rest of the plantings are either California natives or drought tolerant Mediterranean climate plants with a selection of “steppable” groundcovers for a lawn-like area in the final design.

This Conceptual Design illustrates how the dry creek streambed would curve through the site, where the new stepping stone pathway would be, and the general layout of plant material such as screening shrubs, a new tree, and the different size flowering perennials.
